Owai at the 2026 Senior AAi Winter Prizegiving
Prizegiving took place at Mt Smart after the 5k Road Champs on the 19th September. It was a good chance to celebrate our achievements over the winter ... and start scheming for next year! Lots of medals and certificates were given out on the day for the various competitions contested over the winter. Athletics is THE sport if you want to win lots of medals - there are so many opportunities both for individuals and in teams. You don't need to be the fastest or even the fastest

New Zealand Cross Country Champs - Hagley Park (1st August 2026)
Well done to all the Owai athletes who made the trip down to Christchurch for the New Zealand Cross Country Champs at the weekend. What an amazing turn out from the club and some really good performances in cold, muddy, slippery Christchurch conditions! Liz, Mariano and Nick all came away with individual medals but lots contributed to strong Auckland team performances. It's always a great event - a good chance to race against the top cross country runners in your category an

2026 Matariki King & Queen of the Mountain
Race report: 2026 Matariki King & Queen of the Mountain. A quiet Puketāpapa with only a handful of kite-flyers atop, blue skies stretching out over the Wesley neighbourhood and a gentle nor’westerly greeted runners on Matariki afternoon for the 2026 iteration of Owairaka Athletics Club’s King and Queen of the Maunga event.

5000m Time Trial Results
20 June 2026 - What a great night on the track! A cool, calm winter's night - perfect time trialling conditions and this was borne out by 21 new PBs set tonight. Fastest man was Anton Weatherhead with a blistering quick 15:21 (a new pb). Katrina Andrew was the fastest woman with 16:57. There is a good story behind the Time Trial Trophy pictured here. It was last awarded in 1966 and has been missing since then - yes for 60 years. Then it resurfaced in Whangarei when a relative

IAU Asia Oceania 24 Hour Championships in Hirosaki
Two of our members, Keith Burrows and Ketina Chivasa recently took part in this event representing New Zealand. And they did very well! Ketina completed 191.285 km and came 24th overall. Keith, who is current national champion for this discipline, finished the 24 hours with 225.161 km coming 17th and was the top performing Kiwi runner. Well done to both of them. I think you will agree that they have more than earnt their place on the wall of national reps in the club rooms!

Owai out in force again for the 2025 Auckland Marathon
A big club turn out and Anthony Lo's race report The Auckland Marathon weekend is always a big focus for the club with lots of athletes targeting the various race distances. Well done to everyone who took part. Running marathons requires a huge investment of training and to run a good one, a lot of things have to go right in the build up and on the day. Great to see so many out on the roads again this year. For seniors, the event also doubles as the Athletics Auckland Maratho
