To celebrate the re-opening of the Lovelock Track, we are holding a junior athletics club night, then some 4 x 400m relays and there will be a chance to win a certified piece of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Track. You can register to come to the event on this page: https://www.owairakaathletics.co.nz/events-1/lovelock-track-grand-re-opening-celebration
The piece of track is one of only 1000 in existence anywhere in the world. It was donated to us by Bobby Chen who is a long-term supporter of the club. It comes in a beautiful presentation display frame and box and has an officially stamped card with certification. It would be the perfect present for the sports fan in your life.
Some memories of the 2008 Beijing Olympics
This was the track where Usain Bolt broke the 100m World Record. He ran 9.69 that day: https://www.olympics.com/en/video/one-of-those-moments-you-ll-never-forget-remembering-bolt-s-beijing-100m
Our own Valerie Adams won Gold in the Shot Put
And Nick Willis took out silver in the 1500m: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFsIJ1COnIo
How to win this piece of sporting history
Come along to the track re-opening on the 4th February and buy a raffle ticket. Each ticket is $5. Or you can buy 5 for $20. You can also buy tickets at training before the event.
If you don't win a piece of Beijing, you could take away a singlet signed by the Great Sir Peter Snell. We're fundraising to buy the club a track clock that we can use at our events and for training. Like this one:
