LYDIARD SQUAD INFO

Junior athletes aged 10 & over are in our Lydiard Squad, coached by Nick, Dion, TeRina, Nanne & Josef

Wednesday training

During summer terms we train on Wednesdays at the Lovelock Track, from 6-7:30 pm. A typical session:

​

6-6:10 - warm up together as a squad

​

6:10-7pm two activities in rotation

  • track running (shorter distance/technique focused) 

  • jumps or throws activity 

​

7-7:30pm

Optional extension session - for those who would like some extra coaching in

  • distance running

  • jumps 

  • hurdles

  • throws

  • relays/sprints - with Selena

​

Weekend training

​In summer terms we hold hurdles/jumps/throws coaching clinics when there's a gap in the competition schedule - usually on Saturday or Sunday morning.

​

We also have a Saturday morning middle distance squad - we usually meet at 8am at Owairaka Park.

​

During winter terms we hold occasional jumps/hurdles/throws clinics (1.5 hrs) on Sunday mornings.

Weekend competition

We'll go as a squad to selected weekend competitions over the summer, including Colgate GamesRelay Champs, Pentathlon, McKinnon Shield, Auckland Champs (junior/senior) and more. â€‹

Please register your interest for relay events to help us build the teams. Other events are self-registration - info on the Athletics Auckland website.

​

Competitions are usually held at Mt Smart Stadium on a Saturday - though this does vary a bit throughout the season.

 

Your age for competitions

For junior competitions, an athlete's age is their age at 31 December 2025. Age patches must be worn for championship events (incl relays).


For senior competitions in 2025 (including McKinnon Shield), an athlete's age is their age at 31 December 2025. 
For U14 grades, athletes born in 2012 or 2013 are eligible to enter.

For senior competitions in 2026, (including McKinnon Shield & senior Auckland Champs) an athlete's age is as at 31 December 2026. For U14 grade, athletes born in 2013 or 2014 are eligible to enter.
