Auckland Track & Field Champs 2020: records, results and participation

It was fantastic to see 15 athletes represent Owairaka Athletics at the recent Auckland champs, with great results across a broad range of events and grades.

Alyssa Baxter set a new national record in the long jump - beating her own previous record by 25cm. Her jump of 3.96 is a new u17, u20 and NZ women's record for her classification. She also won her 100m event. Awesome work Alyssa!

More long jump action: Aiden Hogg won his long jump (Men U17 Para), Peggy placed second in Grade 10, Nina and India jumped well in Grade 11, and Wolfgang placed second in the Masters 70 Grade.

Owai also had plenty of success in the 1500m events, with wins for Keegan Pitcher (Senior Para), Simon Mace (Masters 40), Nick Moore (Masters 45) and Tim Morrison (Masters 50).

Peggy took a second medal at the champs, winning the Grade 10 400m, and at the other end of the age spectrum Wolfgang won the Masters 70 400m too. Solomon Randerson kept up his good form in the 400m and 800m, Jett Nash made the finals in the Grade 9 100m and 200m, with Lanu Hill and Selena Gee also running 100m in their grades, and Aiden coming second in his 100m. Well done everyone!

It was great to see everyone out competing, thanks to Athletics Auckland for a well run event and to Julie and Winona for covering our club duties.
