About the Event
2020 OWAI 5 MILE and PUKETAPAPA 5KM & 2.5KM
The Owai 5 Mile is Auckland’s prestige club-based road race. It may be the only 5 mile road race running in the country. It's an open event so anyone who wants to come along for a run is very welcome to enter whether you are an Owai member or not.
The course is a flat and fast circuit incorporating War Memorial Park and including the historic Lovelock Track.
The race record for men is currently held by Hamish Carson (25:11). The women's race record is held by Olivia Burne who ran 30:00 in 2018. Can anyone break these this year?
We have cash prizes $50 for the winners of senior categories (Masters Men and Women; Senior Men and Women) and we have a special bonus cash prize of $250 for anyone who wins the race AND breaks the following times: 25:00 for men and 28:00 for women.
This year we have continued our partnership between Owairaka Athletics and the Puketapapa Local Board to encourage community participation and we are also joining with a charity - Immune Deficiency Foundation NZ. So, as well as the Owai 5 Mile, there are also 5k and 2.5k fun run & walk options for everyone to enjoy.
The race is taking place on the 15th November starting at 9:00AM - later in the year than before and we are hoping that lots of our juniors who run Wednesday nights will step to the challenge of 2.5k, 5k... or even the full 5 miles.
Following the event, we invite members and their families to relax and enjoy the rest of the day at a bbq to celebrate a great morning of exercise and fundraising for the foundation. There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks available for purchase, along with a variety of activities for children and families to engage with.
Merchandise and Fundraising items will also be available for purchase on the day.
