Arch Jelley, long time Owairaka relay selector, handicapper and coach to many great athletes,  turns 100 on the 13th August. We're running a 100 x 1 mile relay on the Lovelock Track on the 14th and are looking for people who would like to run or walk, help out  or just come down and spectate on the day. Arch previously organised a world record 100 x 1 mile relay in 1971 at the Lovelock Track. They ran it in 8 hours, 33 minutes and 34.2 seconds beating the previous world record by 4 minutes and 30.4 seconds. Arthur Lydiard ran the first leg and Murray Halberg ran the anchor leg. We're not going for a record this time but it's going to be a great day.

We will also be awarding the Joe Giles Mile Cup (our club Mile Trophy) to the fastest current Owairaka club members (male and female) on the day. Joe was one of Arthur Lydiard's neighbours and a huge enthusiast for the club. We award the Joe Giles Trophy annually to honour his dream to stage a Mile race down May Road.

If you want to be involved on the day, please fill in a registration form. We'll need people to time, take photos, look after the guest book, bake a birthday cake, organise refreshments, custom paint a baton, and who knows what else ...
