How Coaching Works

At Owairaka we operate club training which attends to the training needs of our members. This support comes in all forms from training programmes to advice on maximising the benefits of proven training methods. The aim of the club coaching is that training is based on athlete capability and is adapted as they feel or as athlete ability improves.  Coaches will advise on the most suitable programme should an individual be unsure of which programme to be using. Athletes can have different goal focuses whether Track, 5k, 10k, Half-Marathon or Marathon racing. All you need to do is come along and ask for coaching support.

For our regular club training runs, we meet weekly at the club at 6pm on Wednesday and occasionally on Sunday morning outside of our club days throughout the season.

Wednesday Evening Training year round from 6pm at the Lovelock Track.

Winter Season (Apr - Nov) Wednesday night training can be stamina runs, sprint reps, lactate threshold, hill work or a combination of these.  Lights are on at the Lovelock Track during the winter season from 6pm to 7pm. We also have our club races:
  • Cross Country
  • King of the Mountain
  • Owai 5 Mile Road Champs
  • Joe Giles Mile
Summer Season (Oct - Mar) is our weekly Smiths Sports Shoes 5k in the Park Summer Series starting at 6.15pm. Regsitration from 6.00pm.
