I believe it takes a village to raise a child and in our city we need to build healthy communities to support our children. I am excited to be part of a committee with such a heartfelt and clear vision of both reaching out and supporting the local community and also of nurturing and extending athletes to add to the club's fine History of success. I have my degree and post graduate diplomas from Auckland University and am the Head of Department of a large special needs centre. I grew up playing sport and spending summer evenings doing athletics. It is fantastic to watch my children and nieces and nephew growing as athletes, running and throwing and jumping with pleasure. It is wonderful for my wider family and myself to enjoy making new friends from the area.

As Treasurer of Owairaka Athletics I have been a member of the club for over 40 years. My goals within the club are two fold. Firstly, to make Owairaka a strong sporting organisation within our local community, allowing members to socialise and improve as they choose and, secondly, to enable serious athletes to develop and add to our great history of success. I am a Chartered Accountant and work for a non for profit organisation. I am married to Annette who provides me great support to enable to devote time to the club's activities.

I am a runner and teacher, married with one child. We started bringing our daughter to Owairaka when she started school in 2008 and now we all run with the club, both socially and competitively. It's a great family-friendly environment and I firmly believe running is a wonderful sport for all ages to be involved with. Outside of the club, I am an intermediate school teacher, and I particularly love working with children of that age, the 'emerging adolescent'. Netball is another sport I am involved in, but running is my main passion. I share the vision of others in the club to bring Owairaka's past back to life and allow our youth to reach new highs.

My two boys and their friends have loved participating in the Owairaka junior athletics program over the last couple of years. It’s great to see all the happy kids running, jumping and throwing at the club. I am a strength and conditioning coach and sport scientist with experience leading the physical preparation of a number of professional sports teams.  I am currently completing a doctorate that focuses on improving sprinting performance in athletes. I also enjoy coaching kids in a range of sports, including athletics.

I have great memories as a young lad of having a fantastic time at the local athletics club.  It was a place to socialise, to learn, and to race, but most importantly to have fun with friends in a supportive environment.  I am keen for my kids and others in the community to have the same experience.  Historically a competitive triathlete, I now enjoy participating in a range of sports when time permits!  I am married to Leah and we have three boys.
